The bulb region truly offers a plethora of opportunities for a fun day out for the whole family. In this article, we'll take you through this picturesque and blossoming region in the west of our country.


We journey through dune areas, forests, and beaches, where we dock via the water in the Dutch Polder Area.

Take the Bike!

It doesn't get more Dutch than this. Hop on your bike and pedal through the bulb fields. Enjoy the magnificent view. Throughout the year, you'll come across beautiful spots that provide a perfect backdrop for the best photos.

For the most stunning pictures, it's best to hop on your bike in April. That's when all the bulbs are in bloom, offering fantastic panoramas. There are several bike routes that will show you the finest spots in the Bollenstreek.

For example, choose one of the four bike routes you can take from the Keukenhof. You can rent a bike, but of course, you can also bring your own. There's even a bike tour you can do with an audio guide, so you not only feast your eyes but also hear interesting facts as the wind blows through your hair!

Dive into History

An absolute must-see in the bulb landscape is the monument Slot Teylingen. This is an impressive structure with a remarkable history. After being completely burnt down several times, it has been restored each time.

Keukenhof

Something that should definitely not be missing from this list of the most enjoyable outings is Keukenhof. Every year, hundreds of thousands of tourists come to admire the beautiful flowers. This magnificent park is open for two months from March 24th to May 15th.
At that time, over seven million flower bulbs are in bloom and ready to be admired! A visit to Keukenhof will show you what the Bulb Region has to offer and showcases its most beautiful and extraordinary flowering specimens. Truly a feast for the eyes.

Kasteel Keukenhof

In the vicinity of Keukenhof, you can also visit the historic Estate Keukenhof. Immerse yourself in the characteristic rooms of this centuries-old castle. First, stroll through the Castle Garden and be surprised by the various artworks placed in the English landscape.
After the walk, you can admire various spaces in the castle. Take a look at the Red or Blue Salon and discover that blooming flowers have played a significant role for many years, they are even incorporated into the ceilings and interior. Highly recommended.

De Zwarte Tulp

That the Bollenstreek owes its name to the flower bulbs is clear. But what actually preceded this, and what makes this bulb region so special?
After a visit to the Museum De Zwarte Tulp, you'll know everything. Immerse yourself in the history of bulb cultivation, get a glimpse into the work of the past in the fields, and learn all about art, tourism, and science.

Cityhoppen of uitwaaien

The Bollenstreek has more to offer than just the many blooming attractions. During the spring vacation, visit the old cities in this region and discover their rich history. Plan a trip to Haarlem, the center of the bulb region. Haarlem is known for its courtyards and historical buildings.
Stroll through the cozy streets of this beautiful city. Had enough? Then be sure to visit Lisse, Hillegom, or Noordwijkerhout. Each of these places has its own character. Walk or cycle through these cities and be surprised. Do you love the sound of the sea and prefer to seek tranquility?
Then spend a day at the beach and visit one of the sunny seaside resorts like Noordwijk or Katwijk.
Haarlem

The Dutch Polders

We conclude this list with the most impressive area where water plays a major role. The Dutch Polders guarantee fun and relaxation. It is also the most windmill-rich area in the Netherlands. So keep your camera ready.
